Regional and Urban Economy

The AQR investigation group is specialized in regional and urban economy works. In the last area, we can highlight several areas of experiences where the group has worked:

  • Functional areas: at AQR we redefined the urban territory from the urban systems. This concept bears in mind the interrelations that exist between the nearest municipals themselves for reason of labor and study mobility or the fact they share services. These unions have the great importance at the moment to carry out kind of urban studies, because they bear in mind continually the rest of municipals which are part of their urban system:

  • Mobility: joined with the previous concept, the mobility is a explanation to many of municipal necessities, as the public transport as the infrastructures and common politics for the same urban system towns.

  • Traffic: also traffic has been studied, concretely, in a study that was done for the Ajuntament de Barcelona. In this case, we did a study about the traffic evolution, which has a great utility for the design of the new urban politics.

  • Prices: the prices evolution is another aspect determinants of the urban life where the investigation group has some experiences on it .

  • Life Quality: the Life Quality in the towns of the Barcelona provinces has been synthesized in a work index which has been made on a framework agreement with the Diputació de Barcelona . This index was created in municipal level and urban system level. During the drawing up the work we worked with a large number of statistics and local data from different areas as the car park, per capita income, cultural infrastructures, health and education, finance situation of the town council, housing, unemployment, etc.

  • Economic activity: thanks to an agreement with the Diputació de Barcelona it was possible to design a synthetic indicator of the economic activity which was made in municipal level.
