Present position

Full professor of geography at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and President of the Social Sciences Section; has tought as a professor in the University of Franche-Comté, Paris, Alberta and Québec.

Academic positions : President Elect Regional Science Association International, President of the Swiss National Committee of the International Geographic Union, President Club Européen de la Santé, Chair of the IGU Applied Geography Commission, Vice-President of the European Regional Science Association, Swiss Delegate for COST research (E.U., Brussels), Past President of the University of Geneva Council, Delegate for Social Sciences in France, Past President of the Geneva Association of University Professors, Past President of the Association of Swiss University Professors.

Associations : Past and Honorary President of the French Speaking Regional Science Association, Past President of the Western Regional Science Association, Past President of the Board of Examiners of the International Baccalaureate, Past Chair of the International Prize in Geography Vautrin Lud (The « Nobel » of geography).

Honorary Degrees : Docteur Honoris Causa of the University of Québec, Award of the Association of American Geographers, Associate Member of the Italian Academy of Sciences, Beaulieu Prize for medicometric research, Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite.

Cultural activities : Past Scientific Director of the International Festival in Geography, which attracts each year over 40’000 participants, Member of the Swiss Alpine Club Central Committee on publications.

Editorial Board : Past or present board editor of the following journals : L’Espace Géographique, La Revue d’Economie Régionale et Urbaine, TREMA, La Revue de Géographie Alpine, Les Alpes, Progress in Geography, La Revue Canadienne de Science Régionale, The Papers in Regional Science, The Annals of Regional Science, Geographica Helvetica.
