Wioletta Kazimierska-Jerzyk. University of Lodz
The (non)experience of The Old Market Square in Lodz. Aesthetic problems  of the transfiguration of the architecture and ethical issues of the amputation of the memory

Christine Mady. Notre Dame University. Beirut
Nostalgia for a past: Beirut’s shared open spaces
Last year Dra. Kazimierska co-organized, in  Lodz, the 1st International  Conference  Aesthetics Energy of the City,   focusing in the so-called Urban Art, an trying  to critically explore the role of urban art and the ways it can shape the public sphere. One of the topics was:  Aesthetician in action and their research tools. The value of direct access to art and artists in action and new questions about it: how to speak about art to common people, how to present the role of aesthetic experience, how to cause somebody to pay more attention to his own experience. New categories of describing urban artefacts and their perception: enjoyment, impression, adventure, visual act et al.

This track equally addresses the role of public spaces in addressing everyday needs in societies rather than surrendering to consumerism of urban space. The track invites research papers examining transformations in everyday public spaces, which have nevertheless preserved contextual memory and allowed for the engagement of different user groups in urban life through their practices in those spaces. The purpose is to examine various public spaces producers beyond the professions of design and planning, examine variations in social needs across different contexts, and understand approaches and tools to the supply of such spaces

CITIES 2 can be a good meeting place for both perspectives.
